Haven Ministries – January 2026

Haven Ministries’ Homes of Hope program addresses a growing gap in the local housing
landscape by providing stable, affordable housing for people who are working to regain long-
term independence.
Homes of Hope is built on a simple, proven model. Residents contribute approximately 30
percent of their income toward rent while saving for the future. Participants are employed or
begin working shortly after entry, and most move into independent housing within six to nine
months, though the program allows up to two years when needed.
“This program is extremely successful,” said Mary Jourdak, shelter and housing director at
Haven Ministries. “You’re already starting with people who are usually employed, so they know
where they want to be. They were there once already, and then something happened in life that
caused them to lose their footing, and they end up with us.”
The homes serve a range of residents, including working single parents, families with children,
and single adults. Each home offers private bedrooms with shared kitchens and living spaces,
creating an environment that balances privacy, dignity, and community.
One growing reality the program addresses is the rise of working individuals who fall through
traditional safety nets.
“We’re seeing more people who are employed, responsible and motivated, but priced out of safe
housing,” Jourdak said. “Homes of Hope exists to meet that need.”
Funded entirely through donations and proceeds from Our Daily Thread thrift store and Hope
Furniture Warehouse, Homes of Hope reflects the power of community support in action. Every
gift and purchase helps provide housing, food access and stability for neighbors in need.
As housing challenges continue to evolve, Haven Ministries remains committed to solutions that
work, guided by experience, compassion and measurable outcomes.
